"Ferdinand and Isabella"

Encaustic and mixed media on carved form.

Winona Elliott-Schep

From the artist: "My initial intention was to create a couple and while working on these pieces they began to feel regal to me. When I added the elaborate door hinge to the 'woman' she looked quite Spanish so I thought of the very powerful Queen Isabella of Spain and her husband, Ferdinand. There was a strong family relationship between the two as not only were they married but they were second cousins as well."
