Acrylic & Mixed Media on Canvas
130 King Street East, Gananoque, ON K7G 1G2
Each painting is a poem, a novel, an adventure through a dark night … a redemption like theatre … a life perusing possibilities, pursuing love, truth, comprehension ... a spiritual quest for fulfillment ... arising in the morning light, bleary eyed, doGy coaxing at the foot of the bed, walking to the bakery just in time for that freshly baked morning croissant with hot fragrant european coffee.

Brian Donnelly
Obscura • books, posters & ephemera of art & design
167 King St. East (in the office at the back)
As a young art student in the 1970s, it seemed anything was possible. Now, years of study and teaching the history and theory of art and design has only reaffirmed this. So my interest in image-making, and my approach to it, is complicated. I make works that draw on a wide range of sources, using both images and texts, original and appropriated, hand-drawn and photographed.
Art should not be easy. The most relevant means of making art difficult today, it seems to me, is to confuse the boundaries of art with the very things it remains most resistant to assimilating: texts, words as images, and design generally. I like to wander around in those fields; come on in and let’s talk.

Heather Haynes
Visual Artist/Painter
145 Charles St North, Gananoque, K7G 1T9
Heather Haynes has worked tirelessly and intently to develop her art practice for over 25 years. A fierce vexation in gender inequality led her to The Democratic Republic of Congo, where she witnessed unspeakable cruelty and systemic injustices. She vowed to help in whatever way she could. Now, through touring exhibitions, her art has been an impetus in the fight to eradicate poverty, through education and healthcare, in communities in DRC. In 2018, Haynes helped form The Art of Courage, a not-for-profit platform for storytelling through art, to create awareness, educate, advocate, and raise funds to change lives.

Marielle Simzer
Painter
909 Seven Springs Lane
Athens, On
KOE 1B0
Local Canadian artist, M L Simzer is an oil and palette knife painter, with an
impressionist style. She is strongly influenced by the warmth and beauty of the
natural landscape. Her creative atelier often tests the boundaries of a traditional
style of painting, always with depth and boldness, heavy texture and unexpected
little swoops of colour.
Marielle exhibits her work at Blueskye Gallery “in the garden” seasonally from May to October, by appointment or chance.
Browse the ever-changing collection of unique, original work in a casual setting
amongst the birds, bees and ever-changing natural landscape.

Monique van Someren
Visual Artist
167 King Street E, Studio #2, Gananoque, ON
Monique is a graduate of the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts. This resulted in decades of creativity and a tremendous amount of fun and gratification and above all, an abundance of inspiring artworks adorning many a wall in both Europe and North America. It’s Monique’s passion to depict nature’s astonishing beauty, but also the allure of those commonplace everyday objects that are so easily overlooked or taken for granted. With this, she hopes that her artwork will encourage and motivate the viewer to take a moment to be fascinated by the wondrous nature and all those seemingly insignificant little gems that surround us. Whereby it is noteworthy to mention that, although she does not shy away from the most diverse subjects, her emphasis is on insects and ice crystals, both of which she photographs herself with her macro camera before she immortalises them once more in oil paint, airbrush or alcoholic marker ink.
Monique works out of Studio #2 at the Gan Arts Network.

Debbi Burns Morrison
Painter
My husband and I moved to Gananoque a few years ago from the GTA. There I owned a Flower Shop where I focused all my creative juices into as well as raising my kids.
Moving here has helped me get back to my childhood roots. In high school, I loved spending all my time in the art classroom and spent many a late night working on backdrops for the school plays. I was in my element there.
Before moving here I started back into painting and found it was like riding a bike. Now that we have retired and I have so much more time to enjoy nature and our little town, I have time to put on canvas views and experiences from The 1000 Islands.
