Nature in Focus: Life Through the Lens
Call for entries
A curated photography exhibition at the Gananoque Arts Network, Noel Bullock Gallery
Whether you're a seasoned photographer or a novice, we invite you to share your unique
perspective of the natural world. A camera — even the one on your phone — can be a powerful
tool to engage with nature: evoking wonder, prompting reflection, and inspiring action to protect
our environment.
Let your lens speak for the land. Images taken within the Frontenac Arch Biosphere — one of Canada's most biologically rich and diverse regions — are especially encouraged.

Our lead for this exhibition is professional photographer Virginia Macdonald.

Overview All photographers, regardless of experience, are invited to submit their work for
consideration. Works captured within our area – the extraordinarily diverse Frontenac Arch
Biosphere – are especially encouraged. The exhibition will be curated, and if your work is selected, you will be responsible for printing and framing your pieces for display. A workshop will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 18, to provide ideas on presentation options, including various methods and price points. A $20 entry fee is requested for each piece accepted into the show. Submission Deadline: Monday, November 3, 2025.
Thematic ideas to spark the imagination
Feel invited, not obligated to respond to them. No pressure, just inspiration:
Hidden Details – Life on a miniature scale – the micro-universe on a leaf, the glisten of morning dew, the wings of a dragonfly.
Nature’s Geometry – Exploring the visual patterns of the natural world: spirals, symmetry, and repeated patterns as expressed, for example, in leaf veins, animal markings, river deltas, landscapes, spirals in shells and plants.
Color Stories – Nature speaks in color – signaling danger, inviting pollinators, or simply expressing its splendor.
Elemental Forms – Earth, Water, Fire, Air.
The Changing Earth – Ever-evolving, seasons pass, the cycle of growth and decay, before and after.
Ethereal Earth – Fog, soft light, unusual weather, reflections, rare phenomena. The untouched, quiet corners of the world where nature breathes undisturbed.
Juxtapositions – Consider combining images – more than one image in the frame, collage-like.
