About the event
On the 21st, we will be having our first gathering of Urban Sketchers Gananoque! Urban Sketchers is a global community of sketchers dedicated to the practice of on-location drawing. We share our love for the places where we live and travel—one drawing at a time.
In Urban Sketchers, we don’t feel the results are as important as the fact we went out and had fun drawing together. Our first gatherings will be on three sequential Wednesday afternoons, September 21, 28, and October 1. Then we’ll meet once a month based on what’s decided by the community of sketchers.
The format: We’ll gather at the GAN space, 167 King St. E. at 1pm, then head out to a nearby site. (Consider having lunch at the Painted Turtle Café beforehand!) Around 3:00 we’ll gather again at the GAN space for tea and to share our drawings. Bring your sketching materials, and a small portable seat if you have one. Gananoque is full of interesting buildings and alleys to draw. In case of inclement weather, we’ll raid the Back Alley garage sale items for subjects and sketch in the GAN space. In the winter, we might meet at the 1000 Islands History Museum or another interesting indoor space.
While there will be no official instruction, we will be sharing tips and tricks, talking about art materials, and discussing our sketches. Artistic experience isn’t necessary, there’s no need to register, and it’s free. Just show up with some drawing stuff and join in!
