"Afternoon"

Watercolour on paper, mounted on panel and sealed with an acrylic medium.
Named for the beautiful afternoon light that makes autumn leaves glow, this piece is from an extensive series of semi-abstract watercolours - depicting trees, wildflowers, or the forest floor - for which Karen developed a technique - involving many layers of paint and resistance to the paint (masking tape and fluid) applied in a somewhat random fashion, reflecting the randomness of the subject matter.
